Monday Makeover: Fireplace Mantle
Welcome back to Monday Makeover at WSI!
Today, I have an amazing fireplace mantle makeover to show you. This started as your typical oak mantle. Lauri's family room was being made over from top to bottom, and called us in to help with paint colors, layout, and window treatments. Since I am currently in "paint everything that you see" mode, I suggested we paint the mantle to update her fireplace.
Lauri loves working with birch in her container arrangements. She also loves pottery and the western look, but didn't want to get to much of a "theme" going.
So, here is her fireplace mantle (and wall) before:

And here is the after:

I painted her mantle in Old White with Dark Wax. It just totally transformed her fireplace - and her arrangement of pottery/art really brought it to life!

Now to some close-ups of her window treatments - something nice and simple to highlight her fireplace and compliment her new flooring and furniture:

I also treated the rods/finials to a coat of Old White with Dark Wax - just adds to that natural birch look and works well with the other elements in the room:

Simple, but inviting. L O V E!!
Thanks for visiting!

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Workshops - Sign up TODAY!!!
Well, we have finally gone and done it! We have our FIRST OFFICIAL WORKSHOP SCHEDULE all set and ready to go.
The classes are listed below. We have decided to do smaller workshops for shorter time periods, focusing on one technique per class.
In addition to the schedule below, we offer private workshops for up to 5 registrants. Please call to schedule your private party - great for a girls night out or celebration.
We'll provide the paint in specific colors for each class and all the tools needed. We will also provide you with your choice of a make-n-take item OR you can bring your own small piece. The shorter classes will only allow for small items such as picture frames/mirrors, or small lamp bases. There will be future, longer classes more suitable for furniture pieces.

You can register by calling 815-277-2453 or visiting our store at 37 Old Frankfort Way. The workshop fee of $75.00 is due at time of registration and includes all materials and instruction. Register now as space is limited and workshops fill up quickly!
All registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Registrants will receive special discounts on product during and after the workshop.
Due to small class size/space, these classes will fill up quickly, but we plan to have many more!
We are so looking forward to sharing this wonderful product with you.

Monday Makeover: Twin Bedroom Set in Old White
Welcome back to Monday Makeover!
Tonite we are featuring a custom project for a wonderful lady who was remodeling a Victorian home and was looking for a vintage bedroom set for her daughter.
Here is a before photo of the nightstand. You can see that although it was in good shape, the yellowed oak color just had to go.

We decided on Old White with a glaze, not a dark wax. She wanted it to be softer and streakier, so after clear waxing, I used Minwax Stain in Antique Walnut. I brushed it on, working in small area, then wiping off with a wet rag. It is a long process and quite messy and smelly, but it turned out great.

We kept the original hardware, and just sprayed it a hammered silver.

The Old White is a great contrast to her dark floors and really fits the period of the home.

Remember, if any of you have any questions about painting/waxing your pieces, please do not hesitate to email or call! We are happy to answer any questions, and we want to make sure you are using the paint correctly. As a certified local retailer, we can help you with many techniques!
Have a great week!
Becky
